About us
Born from the pursuit of perfect pace.
Wavelight started with a simple belief from athletics itself: when pace becomes visible, athletes can perform with more confidence, precision and ambition.

The Wavelight story
A world-record idea, rebuilt for modern athletics.
In 1976, Jos Hermens attacked the one-hour world record. To control a perfectly even pace, he used two lights: one at the start and finish, and one halfway around the track.
Two volunteers manually switched on the lights every 68.5 seconds for 52.5 laps. With that visual rhythm, Jos broke the world record with a distance of 20 kilometers and 944 meters.
After his professional career, Jos founded Global Sports Communication, the athlete management agency behind many of the sport's greats, including Eliud Kipchoge, Sifan Hassan, Kenenisa Bekele, Joshua Cheptegei and Faith Kipyegon.
Together with Bram Som, former European 800 meter champion and renowned Diamond League pacemaker, he returned to that original idea. Wavelight Technologies was created to bring a digital pacing system to races and training sessions at every level.
